The Show

Times are hard for Moldonia's royal family, the second-sighted Queen Esmerelda and almost no-sighted King Norbert. So much so that they hope to marry their daughters Lizzie and Maggie off to some rich prince. Then there's their son, Prince Steven, who is hopelessy in love with local peasant girl Mary, and who threatens to burst into song if given half a chance [though you really don't want to hear him sing].

Meanwhile, young, local lad, Adam, is cheated out of his paternal inheritance by his elder brothers, the dodgy, Arthur Daley-ish Dick, and dozy Bob. So, all he has left in the world is his cat, Puss.

Thunderguts the Ogre's reign of terror in the kingdom comes to an abrupt end when the inhabitants discover that he's afraid of mice, and he is banished from the kingdom. Before he gets very far, wicked witch Calufrax crash-lands her broomstick nearby, and soon recruits him as her accomplice. Calufrax, concocts a fiendishly evil plot to overthrow the kingdom. Then she discovers that they have been overheard by Adam and Puss, and she casts a spell at him. However, Puss intercepts and takes the brunt of it, thus saving Adam, and as a result the cat starts talking and wearing boots (well this is panto!).

When Adam and Puss go to the palace to try and foil the evil pair's plans, Princess Lizzie falls madly in love with Adam. Even more bizarrely, Princess Maggie falls in love with Thunderguts - which proves a little difficult, as Calufrax's plan involves him kidnapping the royal children.

Did Adam and Puss save the day? Were Calufrax and Thunderguts defeated? Why did Lizzie end up duelling with the Ogre, armed only with a rolling pin? Were the royal children rescued, and the King and Queen returned to the throne?
